Westfield – The Westfield Foundation is pleased to announce the board awarded $51,300 in grants to 6 worthwhile local organizations. These grants will be used to train crisis hotline volunteers, stock a food pantry with groceries for families coping with pediatric cancer, to underwrite 4 outreach ensemble concerts and 2 L.I.F.E. courses at the Westfield Senior Citizens Housing, to expand a career launch program for area youth and to support advocates for at-risk children.
Since the Foundation’s inception, over $ 6 million has been granted to local organizations from the income earned on the Foundation’s investments.
This quarter’s recipients include: CONTACT We Care, a volunteer-staffed crisis hotline serving Central and Northern New Jersey; Boys & Girls Club of Union County, a club providing a safe haven, with academic enrichment and recreational activities for youth ages five to 18; Emmanuel Cancer Foundation, an agency providing such services as professional in-home counseling, material support such as food, clothing, and household items, advocacy on behalf of families and emergency financial relief to any New Jersey family facing the challenges of caring for a child with cancer; NJ Intergenerational Orchestra which provides orchestral education to musicians of all ages, including full orchestral concerts and outreach performances; Union County College Foundation which provides support for scholarships, equipment, facilities and academic programs; and Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Union County which recruits, trains and supervises community volunteers to act as advocates for children who may have been removed from their homes due to neglect or abuse.
Money to support the Foundation’s grants has been and continues to be provided solely by concerned and caring community residents.
