Healthy Start for Babies Receives $25,000 Grant from The Westfield Foundation

In alignment with our mission to foster positive change, The Westfield Foundation is proud to award $25,000 to Moms Helping Moms Foundation (MHM) to expand its Healthy Start for Babies program. This initiative ensures that families in Union County have access to essential baby supplies such as diapers, wipes, and hygiene products—basic necessities that promote dignity, health, and stability.

Diaper need affects 1 in 2 U.S. families, leading to preventable health issues and childcare barriers. MHM tackles this crisis through a highly efficient, community-centered model that collects, repackages, and redistributes donated baby items, maintaining a near zero-waste operation.

At the backbone of its success is a network of more than 600 volunteers—60% from Union County who help MHM distribute over 3 million diapers and other essentials each year to 85 community partners. Rising costs, growing demand, and the recent government shutdown have placed even more families at risk, making this support especially critical. “SNAP benefits already do not cover diapers, which means that families who are already stretched thin are now being forced into making impossible choices— like deciding whether to buy food for the family or the diapers their babies need. No parent should ever have to make that decision,” said Nahela Hadi, executive director of Moms Helping Moms.

Funding from The Westfield Foundation will enable the purchase and distribution of approximately 131,000 diapers, directly improving the well-being of families in our community. Hadi says, “Thanks to the generosity of The Westfield Foundation, we are able to better support families in need in Union County allowing them to focus on other essentials like food, housing, and work— -without the added worry of meeting their child’s basic needs.”

As The Westfield Foundation celebrates its 50th Anniversary, we remain dedicated to funding initiatives that create lasting, community-wide impact. This partnership reflects our vision of a thriving, inclusive community where every child and family has the opportunity to succeed.
