Foundation announces 2015 Scholarship Winners

Westfield – The Westfield Foundation is pleased to announce this year’s recipients of the Clarence H. and Florence H. Van Dellen Memorial Scholarship.   James Hunter and Olivia Windorf will each receive $5,000 per year for four years.  This young man and young woman were selected based upon multiple criteria including academic achievement, extracurricular activities, community service, and financial need. Applicants are screened by the Westfield High School guidance department and selected by the Westfield Foundation scholarship committee.

James played on Varsity Football and Lacrosse at Westfield High School, as well as volunteered as a referee for PAL football teams. He is actively involved in St. Helen’s Church as a youth and peer minister. At WHS, he was a senior facilitator in “The Guy Thing” at Westfield High School. This program provides advice for underclassmen on the social aspects of high school. Academically, he is an honor roll student and member of the National Honor Society. James will be attending the College of New Jersey in the fall.

1-Olivia windorf grad photo 2015Olivia Windorf is a conscientious student at Westfield High School, a member of the National Honor Society and National Spanish Honor Society, as well as an AP scholar with honor.   As a member of the school’s Community Service Club, Olivia headed various fundraising projects. Ms. Windorf participated in a Medical Mentoring Program at Trinitas Regional Medical Center as well volunteering at Children’s Specialized Hospital, Tutor Connections through Education and the Elizabeth Coalition for the Homeless. Olivia will be attending The College of William and Mary in the fall.

 

The Westfield Rotary’s Scholarship Committee also administers several scholarships on behalf of the community-based Westfield Foundation.

Two top scholarships were awarded in memory of Charles and Florence Wallace totaling $15,000 each to be paid over the course of four years. The recipients are Norna Jules, who will attend Delaware State University and Maya Mortiz, who will be attending the University of St. Andrews and the College of William and Mary.

The recipient of the $2,500 Scholarship in Memory of Chester A. Gerdes, is Emily Forscht, who will be attending Penn State.

The recipient of the Robert M. & Winifred M. Read Law Scholarship in the amount of $10,000, is Jacob Kania. The recipient of the Linda Read Memorial Scholarship, in the amount of $10,000, is Maria Lizzo.
